Before your first mediation session, I recommend that you take the following steps:
-
1
Read the book "The Good Karma Divorce", by Judge Michele Lowrance.
-
2
Review your short-term AND long-terms priorities and goals. You will make the best use of your Mediator time if you are clear about your personal goals and priorities. Use this Worksheet to help you with this task.
-
3
Fill out and return to Natalie (either by e-mail or fax) the
"Pre-Mediation Information Sheet." -
4
Gather Information. The process goes more smoothly when both parties are aware of all assets and debts prior to your first mediation appointment. Gather most recent statements for all assets and debts. Use this Asset & Debt Inventory form to assist you in gathering this financial information.
-
5
If either you or your spouse may be requesting that spousal maintenance (alimony) be paid, then complete the Monthly Budget form. When completing this form, complete it for you and any children that will be living with you. Try your best to estimate your expenses as if you were already separated and on your own.
If you take these five steps prior to your first mediation appointment, you will well-prepared and get the most out of your mediation process.
